Walker Information
Situation
Walker Information came to us for assistance with an overall refresh of WalkerLink, an online tool providing management of contacts to participate in surveys. The application suffered from feature bloat, was difficult to use, required a visual redesign to bring it up to contemporary design standards, and was generally feature-rich but functionality-poor. In addition, Walker Information was working within a fixed budget and schedule and required development in a Flex environment.
“We wanted to push the envelope and make a really compelling and usable web application. We have a fantastic development team, but no one with the design or usability experience to achieve what we needed. Tuitive was a true partner in the development process. They took us through the steps of developing for usability, not functionality; it was very different from our traditional approach. The project came out looking and working great, and was on-time and on-budget. Excellent!”
Process
After performing extensive user research and reporting our results to Walker’s team, Tuitive began wireframing the proposed changes to the application, then created a more up-to-date visual design. The Flex platform allowed us to design a rich user experience that would not have been possible with standard web markup languages. We created all of the front end assets, worked with the Walker development team on implementation, and performed a final usability review to guide future development efforts.
Results
Walker is still in the process of rolling out the new tool to their existing customers, though all new customers are established with the updated application. They report that the application has generated positive user feedback, and training time for the application has dropped to near zero. Most significantly, Walker Research reports that their development time and costs were cut in half compared to the previous application.
